LANSING, Michigan, July 20, 2017 – Lt. Jeff Daniel of the Shelby Township Police Department is the new vice chairman of the state’s Distracted Driving Action Team. Traffic safety action teams help address key safety issues and provide recommendations to the Governor’s Traffic Safety Advisory Commission.
“As the lieutenant in-charge of the Traffic Safety Bureau at the Shelby Township Police Department, Lt. Daniel has clearly demonstrated he is committed to reducing distracted driving deaths and injuries,” said Jim Santilli, chairman of the Distracted Driving Action Team and CEO of the Transportation Improvement Association. “He is an exceptional leader and has been an invaluable traffic safety partner. I hold Lt. Daniel in the highest esteem, and am confident he will help lead the Distracted Driving Action Team to even higher levels of performance as the new vice chairman.”
Lt. Daniel joined the Shelby Township Police Department on June 24, 1996. He was promoted to sergeant on October 17, 2007, and then received his promotion to lieutenant on April 27, 2015. In his current position, Lt. Daniel is in-charge of the Traffic Safety Bureau. He has served as a police motorcycle instructor and an emergency vehicle operations instructor.

Daniel is an outstanding selection for the position of vice chairman of the Distracted Driving Action Team.”
Lt. Daniel currently serves as the president of the Command Officers Union and was previously the president of the Patrol Officers Association.
