Monica Yesh has more than 31 years of law enforcement experience and began her career with the Transportation Improvement Association (TIA) as the Chief Operating Officer on November 19, 2018. She currently serves as the Director of Law Enforcement Services.
As a member of the 102nd Recruit School, Yesh held the ranks of Trooper, Detective Trooper, Sergeant, Lieutenant, First Lieutenant, and Captain throughout her 31 year career at the Michigan State Police.
From June 2010 to December 2010, she was Commander of the Traffic Safety Division where she was responsible for providing leadership in the areas of commercial vehicle enforcement, Motor Vehicle Code, and training for law enforcement officers in alcohol enforcement, crash reconstruction, and speed enforcement.
Yesh served as commander of the Michigan State Police Second District, where she was responsible for all uniform and investigative operations in Macomb, Oakland, and Wayne counties. She led the Recruiting and Selection Division for the last 10 months of her career.
She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Michigan State University, as well as a Master’s Degree in Information Technology from Eastern Michigan University. Yesh is a FBI National Academy Graduate – Session 216, as well as an Eastern Michigan University Staff and Command School Graduate. She currently serves on the School of Police Staff and Command Executive Leadership Program Advisory Board at Eastern Michigan University.
Yesh is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, Michigan Association of Chiefs of Police, Southeast Michigan Association of Chiefs of Police, and Oakland County Association of Chiefs of Police.
As a traffic safety advocate, Yesh frequently participated in numerous campaigns, press conferences, public service announcements (PSA), award ceremonies, and initiatives to improve traffic safety in the state of Michigan.
She teamed up with AAA and the Detroit Tigers for the annual “Teen Driving Safety Night” at Comerica Park to encourage teens to be safe drivers by obeying traffic laws, paying attention while driving, and using seat belts, as well as encouraging parents to set limits for teen drivers. In addition, she supported the Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) “Tie One On for Safety” campaign by increasing road patrols over peak holiday times to combat drunk driving.
She appeared in the PSA video “Remembering Ally: Distracted Driving Awareness” to honor Ally Zimmerman, a 16-year-old Romeo High School student who was killed by a distracted driver. In addition to appearing in the video, Yesh was also a guest speaker at Romeo High School to kick off the distracted driving awareness campaign.
Yesh was a guest speaker at the Courageous Persuaders Video Competition Awards Celebration, which is a competition-based scholarship program that invited high school students to create a 30-second television commercial about the dangers of underage drinking or the dangers of texting while driving.
She has been on the selection committee for the Distracted Driving Billboard Challenge, which is a statewide distracted driving education and enforcement initiative partnering with State Farm to discourage distracted driving.
Yesh is a Hastings, Michigan native and calls the Detroit area her home.
